It's basically the 'input damage - ph/mg defense', so how much damage is reduced by BoN depends on your overall defense value, and the attack value of your enemy. Ah, so a lot of variables in the equation! Would still be good to get some examples to get a general idea.
Reducing 2-3 damage out of 142 for example is pretty low. If it was more like 20 at this point, it would be better. So far it looks more like a buff you can give to your Merc friend so they can AoE better but not useful for a Saint for AoE, PvP, boss or anything really: Plus, Breathing of Earth gives the same def buff and max HP as well.
